SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Unidentified gunmen kidnapped three Turkish engineers in the northern province of Jawzjan, police said Saturday.

The three were working with a trade company dealing in animal skins called Post Aaq Muradbai Company. They were seized from the Khwaja Dokoh-Shabarghan highway on Friday night on their way to neighbouring Faryab province, provincial police chief Ibrahim told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The Turkish engineers were travelling in a car from Aqcha district to Andkhoy district in Faryab to visit a project site when unknown gunmen intercepted their vehicle.

Ibrahim said that a search operation had been launched.

“Armed men stopped a vehicle and took away some people in another car toward an unknown location,” resident Khwaja Nazar, in Khwaja Dokoh district, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

No one has claimed for the kidnapping.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said he had no information about the incident.
