TALUQAN (PAN): More than 150 families have vacated their houses and moved to school buildings and mosques due to a mountain shifting in Taluqan, the capital of northern Takhar province, an official said on Saturday.
The sliding began late Friday night in a village near Taluqan city, provincial Natural Disaster Management Authority chief, Abdul Razaq, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the mountain had slipped about eight centimeters.
Nearly 150 families had left their houses for safer places, Razaq said, adding a team had been sent to the area to gather information about the displaced.
Mohammad Yousuf, an affected person, said most of the houses in the area could be destroyed if the sliding continued.
