Afghanistan eliminated from World Cup qualifying

KABUL Cup qualifying in the return match against Palestine, an official said on Monday.

Palestine stopped Afghanistan in a 1-1 draw, Yasameen Mohammadi, a Football Federation deputy, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Palestine scored a goal in the 12th minute of the first half, she said. Bilal Arzoo scored on behalf of the Afghan team in the 72nd minute, and the game finished in a draw.

She added that Palestine had defeated Afghanistan 2-0 in the first match, giving them a leg two victory and disqualifying Afghanistan.

The Afghan players played well but did not use their opportunities, said coach Mohammad Yousuf Karger in a phone interview with Pajhwok Afghan News.

He expressed his hope that in the future the Afghan national football team will try to advance further in World Cup qualifying.

Palestine will go on to play Thailand.
