WASHINGTON, DC 2011 (PAN and Islamabad would resolve the issue.

“There have been ongoing discussions between Pakistan and Afghanistan about these cross-border incidents,” the Pentagon spokesman, Col Dave Lapan, told reporters.

“It is the US position that violence across the border involving military forces on both sides as opposed to attacking insurgents should cease, but this is something that the two governments are working on,” he said when asked about the shelling by Pakistani forces inside Afghanistan, which has killed more than 50 people in the past few weeks.

Lapan said the United States will not get involved in talks between the two countries regarding the attacks. “It is between the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan to work out. We hope that the violence that crosses the border in that fashion would cease,” he said.

The State Department declined to comment on the issue.
