ISAF comments on Panjshir shooting

KABUL employees in Panjshir yesterday, killing them both, according to an ISAF statement.

The shootout took place Saturday in the Hesay-e-Dowum district of the province, provincial council chief Ata Mohammad Amiri told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The NDS member stopped each car in a two-vehicle Provincial Reconstruction) convoy, according to the statement. After a brief conversation with the passengers in the second vehicle, he opened fire on the two in the front seat, killing them both, the statement said.

An ISAF soldier from the other vehicle then shot and killed the NDS member, and was wounded in the exchange of fire, the statement said.

This is the second recent major security incident in Panjshir. In June, Italian national Cristian Congiu was beaten to death by locals after firing at a resident of the Mukni valley of Khinj district of the province.
