KABUL): Parliament on Monday strongly condemned the killing of four de-miners in captivity by their kidnappers in the western province of Farah.

Twenty-eight of the 32 kidnapped employees of a landmine clearing organisation were released while four were killed in captivity, officials said on Monday.

On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen seized 32 employees of the Demining Agency for Afghanistan (DAFA), a non-governmental organisation that clears landmines. They were abducted from the Bala Baluk district in the western province of Farah. The 28 freed workers, and their four dead colleagues, had all reached Farah City by 10:30 am Monday.

Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament issued a statement strongly condemning the incident. “It is the handiwork of the enemies of peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the statement said.

The legislature demanded of the government to investigate the incident and bring to justice the perpetrators.

It said innocent civilians were being killed in rocket attacks, suicide bombings, roadside explosions and other terrorist activities on a daily basis across the country.

A lawmaker from Farah, Haji Mamor Musa, said the four de-minders had brutally been killed.
