HERAT CITY (PAN kidnapped dozensof civilians in the western province of Farah, an official said, but the fighters said the abducted men were police.
The kidnapping took place in Tot region of Gulistan district on Tuesday evening, Naqibullah Farahi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the abducted individuals were civilians and had no link to the government or local police.
The Taliban had taken them to an unknown place and their fate was still unknown, he said.
An official in the western police zone confirmed the incident, saying one of kidnapped men had been killed. He said police had launched a search to locate the missing people.
A Taliban spokesman said the Taliban had seized 35 local police personnel in the Tot and Mugholabad areas of Gulestan district. The men were police and had come home on vacation, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said.
He said the fate of the abductees would be decided a Taliban military shura.
Last week, 32 employees of a demining organization (DAFA) were kidnapped by suspected Taliban in Balabluk district.
