FARAH CITY: Six national army soldiers and seven Taliban militants were killed during a clash in Bala Baluk district of central Farah western province, officials said on Saturday.

Another eight soldiers and 14 militants were injured during the firefight, Col. Mohammad Ghous Malyar, provincial intelligence chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The three-hour long gun-battle resulted in the deaths of six Afghan army soldiers and seven insurgents, he said.

Another security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the injured soldiers are in a critical condition. He said the dead rebels included a group leader.

The Taliban claimed they killed a large number of foreign and national soldiers during the fight.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said that at least 25 foreign and local soldiers and two fighters were killed. He accused foreign troops of killing civilians in airstrikes, a claim rejected by the alliance.
