High Peace Council faces problems

GHAZNI (PAN in southern Ghazni province said that hundreds of militants had tried to join the peace process but could not be accommodated due to lack of resources.

Several Taliban commanders, along with their fighters, have sought peace from the Council, Dr. Ghani Bahaduri, a member of the High Peace Council, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the militants had asked for protection and jobs but the Peace Council department in the province could not meet their requirements.

The High Peace Council was established six months ago in the province, he said.

Azizullah Poya, a provincial council member, said that the Ghazni Peace Council has no office or director, nor has it formed any committees to handle its work.

Ali Jan Jamal, a member of the High Peace Council, said that peace is a priority for the nation of Afghanistan, and that the Council is trying to prepare the ground for sustainable peace.

Armed groups opposed to the government have many needs, chief among them security, he said.

Nevertheless, the High Peace Council deputy chief, Abdul Hakim Mujahid, told Pajhwok that he would not establish a local office for the provincial Peace Council, and that all the provincial Peace Council’s requirements had been met.
