SAR-I-PUL (PAN): The Sarancharak police headquarters was inaugurated in the northwestern province of Sar-i-Pul, an official said Tuesday.

It took two years to construct the facility, said provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Asadullah Shirzad.

A US Army engineering team built the facility at a cost of $700,000. The two-acre complex has 18 administrative offices, a bedroom, a cafeteria, a conference room, and jail cells for men and women.

“Before, we worked out of a three-room house,” Sancharak district police chief Hakim Bik said.

Zabihullah, a spokesman for the  American engineering team, said that in 2011 nearly $396 million would be spend in the north on construction projects related to education, highways, and the provincial government.

He said construction work was underway on district police headquarters in the Gosfandi, Balkhab and Kohistanat districts of Sar-i-Pul.

Last year the US Army built police headquarters in the Sozma Qala and the Sayad districts of Sar-i-Pul.
