Afghan police equipped with night vision scopes
KABUL(PAN): Afghan police were equipped with new weapons, including night vision scopes, by the International Assistance Force (ISAF) on Thursday, days ahead of Kabul's transition to Afghan security lead.
ISAF training mission chief, Maj. Tora, told a ceremony at the interior ministry the weapons and equipment would meet requirements of the police force.
He said 1,200 Russian AK-47 rifles, 1,200 gun laser and lights, 600 night vision goggles and 600 helmet cameras.
The weapons and equipment would be provided to the special police units, said Lt. Col. Abdullah Sarhadi, head of the logistics support centre at the interior ministry.
He urged the international community to continue providing assistance for Afghan security forces, who are scheduled to assume security responsibility for Panjsher and Mazar-i-Sharif over the next few days.
