KABUL): Twenty players have been picked for the Kabul fencing team as a result of a tournament in the capital, officials said on Thursday.

Up to 100 contestants from four clubs participated in the week-long event that got under way on July17 in the National Olympic Committee gymnasium.

Twenty of them were chosen for the Kabul swordfight team, head of the Fencing Federation, Mohammad Tariq Roshandil, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

One of the successful participants, Masood Quraishi, 20, said he was happy over finding his way to the Kabul fencing team. He urged the federation to hone young players’ skills.

Nearly 400 players, including 30 females, from Kabul, Balkh, Ghazni, Khost, Paktia, Paktika, Herat and Uruzgan provinces are members of the federation.
