KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Saturday condemned bomb and gun attacks in the Norwegian capital, where scores of people were killed and wounded.

Hours after seven people died in a bomb explosion, a gunman in police uniform killed at least 84 people in a brazen assault on a youth summer camp of the ruling Labour party in Oslo.

“A paradise islandhas been transformed into a hell,” Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said of the ferocious attacks, which drew strong condemnation from international leaders.

President Karzai denounced the incident, saying the attacks in the peaceful country showed that terrorists continued to pose a serious threat to international peace.

Afghan people, who have been the victim of the scourge for several years, could better gauge the Norwegians’ shock, Karzai said in a statement from his office.

He extended condolences to the people and government of Norway, which has almost 500 soldiers within ISAF. Since 2011, 10 Norwegian soldiers have been killed in the country.
