MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): Four guards of a private security firm were killed and a fifth injured in a roadside bombing in the central province of Maidan Wardak, an official said on Tuesday.

The explosion took place on the Kabul-Kandahar highway on Tuesday morning, the governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Elsewhere in the province, an Afghan National Army (ANA) vehicle was blown up in Jalrez district. Shahid said the incident took place in the Kota Ashar village, but there were no casualties.

A civilian was killed during an operation against militants after the blast, he said. Shahid blamed insurgents for killing the civilian.

Resident Qayyum said Afghan forces carried out the operation in the area after the blast. The one-hour operation resulted in the death of two civilians and injuries to a third, he said.
