Pakistani among several militants detained

KABUL): A six-member militant group led by a female has been arrested in southern Ghazni province, the intelligence service said on Tuesday.

The group included a Pakistani Taliban spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told a press conference in Kabul.

The suspects had been involved in anti-governmental activities, abductions and extortions, he said.

He identified the detainees as Sayed Mujtaba, Abdul Rauf, Mohammad Ali, Faridon, Syed Mukhtar and Zuhra, the female, residents of Ghazni.

Zuhra had links with the Taliban, Mashal said, adding four pistols and a hunting gun were recovered from the detainees. The detainees had confessed to their crimes during preliminary investigation. Mashal said the six suspects had been extorting money from rich people to raise fund for insurgency related activities.

He said the group had links with militant organizations in one of the neighbouring countries, but he did not name any country.

The men had role in infiltration of Chechen, Uzbek and Arab militants from Paktika to Zabul and Ghazni provinces.

Another 16-miliant with links to Sirajuldin Haqqani group had been detained with the help of two women‘s north Waziristan along with his two partners in the province, he said.

The two accomplices were identified as Sadiqullah and Mohammad Ayub, both residents of north Waziristan. The three were detained in Domanda district.

Mashal said the detainees had confessed that they were encouraged by Maulavi Amin Shad, a Haqqani group leader based in Waziristan.

The three had carried out an attack on the house of Khazan, a resident Domanda district, killing Khazan and injuring his three family members.

Mashal said Khazan was responsible for security of logistic convoys for foreign forces.
