KABUL (fasting) will begin on Monday, a prominent astrologist predicted on Monday.
The moon of Shaaban was sighted at 1:30pm on July 1, Abdullah Kandahari told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Saturday, July 31, would be the 29th day of Shaaban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. But the new crescent could not be sighted on that evening, he said.
The first of Ramadan, which would have 29 days, would be observed on Monday, Aug. 1, Kandahari said, adding that Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Aug.30.
The Day of Arafa will fall on Nov. 5 (Saturday) and Eidul Adha on Nov. 6 (Sunday), according to the astrologist, who said that the weather would turn pleasant as a result of rains in the first week of Ramadan.
