Karzai, Mohammadi condemn Uruzgan attack

KABUL): President Hamid Karzai and interior minister, Bismillah Mohammadi, on Thursday strongly condemned the death of Ahmad Omaid Khpalwak, a reporter with Pajhwok Afghan News, in a militant attack in central Uruzgan province.

Khpalwak was among 19 people killed when a group of suicide bombers stormed government buildings in Tirinkot.

Another 37 people were injured in the assault that targeted the governor’s house, police headquarters and a highway battalion.

President Karzai condemned the attack, saying the enemy wanted to derail the security transition peacesss, but they would not succeed.

“The enemies of peace in Afghanistan are killing innocent people and civilians to please their masters,” Karzai said, praising security forces for their bravery. He also expressed his condolences with the bereaved families.

The interior minister in a statement said he was shocked by hearing the news that Pajhwok Afghan News reporter had been killed in the enemy’s attack.

The minister prayed to Allah Almighty to keep Khpalwak’s soul in eternal peace and courage to his family to bear this irreparable loss.
