ASADABAD (PAN): A two-day cricket coaching course, involving 50 boys, concluded in Asadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Thursday.
Sponsored by the Afghan Connection and MCC, the cricket camp was arranged by the Afghan Youth Cricket Support Organisation (AYCSO).
Fifty boys from Asadabad and several districts attended the camp, said an AYCSO official and former national cricket team captain, Raees Ahmadzai.
Participants were taught primary techniques of the game, said trainer Izzatullah, who is also a member of the national cricket team. He said the participants were told how to bat, bowl and field.
At the end of the camp, the participants were divided into teams that participated in a tournament. Of the 50 boys, 10 have the ability to make it to the national team, Izzatullah said.
Kunar Cricket Federation chief, Abdullah, thanked AYCSO for arranging the camp, the first of its kind in the province. However, he stressed the need for long-term training camps.
