11 Hazara tribesmen dead in Quetta shootingBy Hijratullah Kharotai Jul 30, 2011 - 13:39
QUETTA (PAN): Eleven people were killed and three others injured in a shooting in the capital of Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan on Saturday morning, witnesses and officials said.
Unidentified gunmen on a motorbike fired at a Suzuki van, coming to Quetta from Hazara town, witness Aminullah told Pajhwok Afghan News. The shooting happened on the Spinney road.
A woman was among the dead, mostly members of the minority Shiite sect, he said, adding the attackers managed to escape. Paramilitary soldiers rushed to the scene and evacuated the casualties to the Bolan Medical Complex.
Enraged by the assault, hundreds of Hazara tribesmen took to the streets, blocking the Bravery road and torching two vehicles. Businessmen from the tribe announced 40-day mourning and a shutdown in the city on Sunday.
