KABUL): A dozen individuals were sentenced to 13-20 years in jail on charges of drug trafficking, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) announced on Saturday.

Having defence lawyers to plead their cases, the accused were convicted by an appellant court at the end of an open trial on the basis of evidence, CJTF spokesman, Ahmad Khalid Mowahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Under the relevant law, a convict could move the Supreme Court against the appellate court decision.

Hailing from Farah, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Baghlan, Nimroz and Nangarhar provinces, the men were held with more than 337 kilograms of heroin, a tonne of opium and 19 kg of morphine.
