LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): Counternarcotics police have arrested eight people on charges of possessing and selling alcoholic beverages and drugs in the capital of southern Helmand province, an official said on Tuesday.

The men were arrested from different parts of Lashkargah over the past three days, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Twenty litres of alcohol, 80 grams of heroin, three kilograms of charas and a number of huqas were recovered from their possession, he said.

Angar said counternarcotics police had been directed to continue with the crackdown until all alcohol and drug sellers were arrested and their dens destroyed. The police chief said drinkers and drug addicts were involved in various crimes.
