Military uniform factory discovered in Kabul

KABUL):  Afghan police have discovered a large military uniform-making factory in the Parwane Du area of Kabul, the Ministry of Interior said on Tuesday.

Ministry spokesman Ghulam Seddiq Sadiqi told a press conference that bundles of military uniforms were recovered from the factory, which was illegally operating in the capital.

Police arrested two individuals and seized 222 magazine holsters, garments used for military uniform, eight sewing machines and different types of materials.

Factory workers might have links to anti-government fighters, he suggested, saying that it was yet to be known where the items were imported from. An investigation has been launched. 

Following an insurgent attack on the Ministry of Defence on April 21, the government banned sales of military uniform and other equipment in the market.

A suicide attacker in a military uniform attacked the Ministry of Defence, killing two soldiers and wounding seven others. The dead included a senior defence official.

Anyone defying the ban would be punished, Kabul police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Ayub Salangi, told a news conference. After the ban was imposed, police collected the uniforms sold illegally at different shops.
