JALALABAD (PAN): The Saudi Arabia Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has distributed dates to 250 poor families in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Thursday.

About 5000 kilograms of dates have been distributed to fatherless and indigent families, Nangialia Yousufzai, chief of Red Crescent Society department, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The assistance was based on an SRCA commitment to give 20 tonnes of date palm to the Afghan people, he said.

“The dates can meet our demands for both fruits and foods,” said Sahila, a resident of the area who lost her husband in a suicide attack last year. Abdul Ghaffar, a labourer in the city who received dates, was also happy about the assistance.

According to officials, about 6.5 tonnes of dates will be distributed in other areas of the same province.
