Child among 3 dead in Kunar gunbattle

ASADABAD (PAN): Three people were killed and 20 others, including security officials, were injured in a gunbattle in eastern Kunar province, hospital sources said on Friday. Two militants and a child were among the fatalities.

The firefight took place in the Matin area of Manogai district, where the Taliban attacked a convoy of security forces late on Thursday.  

Asadabad Civil Hospital Director Dr. Farooq Sahak said six Afghan policemen, four soldiers and seven residents were among the injured.  “A child was among them. He later succumbed to his injuries.”

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters had killed seven security officials and wounded more than a dozen in different areas of the district.

They also destroyed a police pick-up, said Mujahid, who acknowledged the loss of two men were injuries to four others.
