290 litres of acid seized in Herat
HERAT (PAN): Police seized acid used in making crystal heroin in Adraskan district of western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.
The 290 liters of acid in 29 jerry canes were recovered from an air-conditioned vehicle and two men arrested for carrying them, said Brig. Gen Syed Aqa Saqib, the provincial police chief.
The detainees had smuggled the acid from Iran and wanted to carry it to southern provinces, he said.
The two were identified as residents of Pashtun Zarghoon district, he said.
He said the acid had been prepared in western countries and transferred through Turkey, Iran and then Afghanistan.
Elsewhere in the province, three people were rescued by police from their kidnappers.
Noor Ahmad, one of the victims, said he had been kidnapped from Islam Qala area. He said police detained at least two of the kidnappers.
He indentified the two others victims as Arbab and his son, who were kidnapped from Chisht-i-Sharif.
