KANDAHAR CITY (PANinfo-icon): The assassination of tribal elders and other influential figures is planned outside Afghanistaninfo-icon, the High Peace Councilinfo-icon chief alleged on Sunday.

During a visit to the southern province of Kandahar, Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani urged residents to help prevent such assassinations. However, he did not say where the assassinations were plotted.

In Kandahar to attend a special condolence ceremony for tribal elders, Rabbani is accompanied by the council secretary, Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai, and Ulemainfo-icon Council head Qayamuddin Kashaf.

The participants paid tributes to Ahmad Wali Karzai, the provincial council head, Ghulam Haider Hamidi, Kandahar mayor, ulema council head, Hekmatullah Hekmat, police chief, Gen. Khan Mohammad Mujahid, and other figures.

Rabbani rejected as groundless allegations that President Hamid Karzai planned to impose emergency rule in the country.

Kashaf renewed his call for the fighters to shun violence and join the reconciliation process. As long as there are problems among Afghans, foreigners would remain in their country, he said.
