Karzai orders probe into Helmand airstrike
Eight people, including women and children, were killed on Friday when foreign soldiers bombed a house in the Nad Ali district of the province. The district police chief confirmed that civilians were killed in the raid.
But a statement from the Governor's House said the international troops had bombed the house of a Taliban commander. A foot patrol of NATO-led soldiers had come under attack in the area.
It added the house owner, Maulvi Abdul Hadi, a roadside bomb expert, was also killed in the airstrike.
Governor Gulab Mangal asked the international soldiers to spare women and children while conducting counterinsurgency operations.
