Survey for rebuilding Bala Hisar Fort launched
Once the survey was completed, rehabilitation work would start on the fort, Director of Information and Culture Hamidullah Sarwary told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The project, worth millions of dollars, is funded by the Aachen University of Germany.
Archeologist Eng. Ghulam Muhammad Zia Rawan said that Bala Hisar and Qala Ghaznian were important centres of the Ghaznavid era. The forts once housed the old city of Ghazni, he recalled.
Eng. Karim, technical adviser to the governor, said the survey had been initiated by a local company called Geological Search. Previously, the Germans had carried out the same task.
A tower of the Bala Hisar Fort collapsed four months back, with people blaming it on lack of attention to historical sites by the authorities concerned.
