KABUL(PAN): A Vocational Teacher Training academy, completed and equipped with 14 million euros assistance from Germany, was inaugurated in Kabul on Sunday.
Education Minister Ghulam Farooq Wardak and Rüdiger König, German ambassador to Afghanistan, and other officials attended the opening ceremony.
The academy was established in Kabul in 1971, Wardak recalled, saying the building had become dysfunctional during the civil war.
Graduates from the academy are hired as teachers in vocational schools, the minister informed. The number of vocational schools will increase to 500 from the current 129 over the next 10 years.
Rüdiger Königsaid Germany would continue to provide assistance to Afghanistan, particularly in the fields of education and vocational training.
With little natural wealth, Germany has been able to develop by exploiting its human resource and specialists, he added, Afghanistan should also focus on training specialists and developing human resources, he stressed.
