Taliban still on the run, insists Pentagon

WASHINGTON (PANinfo-icon): The Pentagon says Saturday's helicopter crash is a one-off incident that does not makes any changes to its assessment of the Talibaninfo-icon's capabilities.

"A single combat incident does not necessarily create a watershed that anybody should be reading into what this means about the Taliban," a Pentagon spokesman said on Monday.

"We still have the Taliban on the run and have reversed the momentum that they have," Col. Dave Lapan told reporters during an off-camera briefing.

The Taliban were to come back hard they were going to take the loss suffered last year, he said, warning that the rebels would continue to inflict casualties not only on US troops but also on Afghans.
