US troops kill Afghan police in Arghandab
KANDAHAR (PAN): American troops shot dead two local policemen and injured six others in southern Kandahar province, the acting provincial police chief said on Wednesday.
The latest friendly fire incident took place in the Tabin area of Arghandab district on Tuesday night, when US soldiers opened fire on members of the local police force, Gen. Abdul Razzaq said.
Zalmai Ayubi, the governor's spokesman, linked the fire exchange to some misunderstanding between the two sides. However, he did not have a specific casualty figure. A team is in the area to probe the shooting.
Meanwhile, the International Security Assistance force (ISAF) said it was jointly investigating the incident with Afghan officials. "A joint Afghan-ISAF investigation is currently underway and more details will be released as appropriate."
