Badakhshan road mishaps leave 2 dead, 13 injured
FAIZ ABAD (PAN): Two people were killed and more than a dozen others sustained injuries in two road mishaps on the Faizabad-Takhar highway in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Friday.
The first incident took place late on Thursday in the Qara Kamar area of Argo district, where a heavy-duty bus veered off the road before flipping over.
At least 13 passengers, including women and children, were injured, provincial traffic police chief, Captain Muhammad Ibrahim, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Giving a witness account, Azizullah said: "Ever-since the road has been black-topped, most drivers have been resorting to overspeed." He said the bus sped past them like a bullet. With the driver unable to control the vehicle, the bus turned over.
Elsewhere in the province, two people died in a head-on collision between two cars in the Atin area of Argo district, Capt. Ibrahim said. The victims were going to Badakhshan from Takhar.
Dr. Obaid, in charge of the Badakhshan Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving two dead bodies and 13 injured people. Two of the injured were in critical condition, he added.
