Elder freed on payment of ransom
QALA-I-NAW (PAN): An influential tribal elder, kidnapped a week back in northwestern Badghis province, has been freed, officials said on Saturday.
Haji Abdul Zahir was kidnapped in the Kharistan area on the charge of leading tribal councils in three villages of the province.
Zahir was freed on Friday night, Badghis police chief Col. Mohammad Jabbar Saleh said, adding he was unaware of any deal. No one has been detained in connection with his abduction, he said.
But Haji Abdul Rahim, the kidnapped elder's cousin, said they had paid kidnappers 500,000 afs in ransom. The man is in good health.
