3 convicted of drug trafficking
The men were convicted at the end of an open trial on the basis of evidence. They had defence lawyers to plead their cases, a statement from the CJTF said.
The convicts from Helmand were detained with 1,400 kilograms of opium during a joint patrol by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the Registan desert of Garmser district.
Under the relevant law, a convict can move a court of appeal before approaching the Supreme Court against the verdict.
In the first quarter of the current solar year (Mar 22-Jun 21, 2011), the primary court convicted 177 people on charges of drug trafficking. However, one accused was exonerated.
