Construction of Hameedi township starts in Kandahar
KANDAHAR (PAN): Construction work has started on Hameedi Township, named after Ghulam Haider Hameedi, the recently assassinated mayor of Kandahar City, officials said Monday.
The township will be in the Morchi Kotal area of the city.
A committee supported by the government was formed for the construction of the township, and the demarcation and distribution of the plots began yesterday, provincial spokesman Zalmay Ayubi said.
500 plots will be given to those whose homes were destroyed, while the remaining would be given to government officials, said Ahmed Bezad, an official with the Kandahar municipality.
Hameedi Township will be situated on northeast along the Kandahar-Uruzgan highway and will have 2,000 residential and commercial plots. Roads, schools, commercial markets, clinics, canals and other facilities will be provided in the township.
