KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) commander and the acting NATOinfo-icon senior civilian representative met relatives of civilians killed and injured in central Kapisa province.

At least three civilians -- a man, a pregnant woman and a child -- were killed by US-led French troops in the Nijrab district of the province on July 26. The three were killed when soldiers opened fire on their vehicle, said the district chief.

Following the incident, the French ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon apologised for the civilian casualties, but President Karzai said no apology could bring back the dead.

During the meeting, which was held at ISAF headquarters in Kabul, Gen. John R. Allen expressed his sincere condolences and apologised to family members for the loss.

Gen. Allen reiterated that any civilian casualties were a tragedy, and assured the family he would continue to make every effort to reduce the collateral damage, an ISAF statement said.
