Temporary bridge inaugurated in Kunar
ASADABAD (PAN): A temporary bridge on a river was inaugurated in the Watapur district of eastern Kunar province on Wednesday, officials said.
Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi and ISAF commander in the eastern zone, Col. Kaim, attended the inaugural ceremony for the 40-mentre bridge that connects three districts of Kunar and parts of Nuristan with Asadabad, Kunar's capital.
Funded by the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), the bridge, weighing 80 tonnes, took three days to install, Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News. He thanked ISAF soldiers for resolving the transportation problem of Kunar and Nuristan people.
A resident of Watapur district, Mohammad Islam, hoped a permanent bridge would be constructed soon. He said a retaining wall on both sides of the bridge should be built to protect the structure from flooding.
