20 dead in Herat bombing
HERATCITY (PAN): At least 20 people were killed and as many others, including nine children, injured in a roadside bombing in western Herat province on Thursday, officials said.
The incident took place at around 9:30am when a civilian vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Turkan Kotal area between Oba district and the provincial capital, a police spokesman said.
Up to 13 civilians were killed and four others injured in the blast, Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News. Some of the wounded were in critical condition and fatalities could rise, he feared.
Meanwhile, another police official said 20 people were killed and 21 others injured in the bomb assault on the minibus that was carrying 30 passengers, including women and children.
A tribal elder from the Sherawan village of the district, Abdul Basir, said 21 people were killed in the blast. The victims' bodies were blown to bits, he said, adding nine children were among the injured.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but a local government official blamed the armed opposition groups, a reference to Taliban and other fighters, for the bombing.
