Civilians among 7 killed in Helmand
LASHKARGAH (PAN): Five militants and two civilians were killed and seven fighters detained in in the southern province of Helmand, officials said on Thursday.
Foreign troops conducted an operation in the Koh-i-Baran area of Nawzad district, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Two Taliban commanders were among seven fighters detained during the two-day operation. No civilians or foreign troops suffered casualties, he said.
Separately, two civilians were killed on Wednesday when a van struck a roadside bomb in the Shor Shorak area of Nawa district. Angar said the people had been to the area for selling grapes.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, without commenting on the incidents, claimed casualties were inflicted on several foreign troops in a roadside bomb attack in Nawzad.
