Moderate quake jolts northern provinces
The earthquake occurred at around 4:22 am over 200 km north of the capital Kabul, the United States Geological Survey said, adding that its epicentre was 55 kilometers deep.
Afghan officials have not yet commented on any casualties or damage caused by the quake. Northern provincesof the country, especially areas around the Hindu Kush range, are frequently hit by quakes.
Dozens of people had suffered casualties in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province some years ago after the district was hit by a powerful quake and several aftershocks.
