US Afghanistan's committed partner: Clinton

WASHINGTON (PANinfo-icon): Congratulating Afghanis as they celebrate 92 years of their independence, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday that her country would remain a committed partner and friend of Afghanistaninfo-icon.

"Being independent, however, does not mean being alone. Throughout this transition and beyond, the United States will remain committed to Afghanistan and the region," Clinton said in a statement. 

"We will continue to help the Afghan people rebuild after decades of war and assist the Afghan government, security forces, and civil societyinfo-icon. The United States will remain a committed partner and friend," she said.

Clinton called Independence Day an opportunity to reflect on the country's achievements and recommit to a future of greater possibility for children and grandchildren.

"The process of transitioning security responsibilities to the Afghan government will place you, the people of Afghanistan, firmly in charge of your own security and destiny," she said. 

As their government led ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts, all Afghans could look forward to a better future, with freedom and stability secured by their own citizens, Clinton said.

"I am delighted to send best wishes to all Afghans for a safe and happy Independence Day.  We look forward to many years of continued friendship and cooperation working toward a more peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan."
