35 killed, 27 injured in Kandahar accident

KANDAHAR CITY (PANinfo-icon): At least 35 people were killed and 27 others wounded when a 303 model passenger bus flipped over Saturday in the southern province of Kandahar, officials said.

In a statement, the Minsitry of Interior said the occurence took place in the Shur Andam area of Daman district.

The accident took place at around 6am on Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar Highway in the Daman district of Kandahar, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Thirty-five passengers died and 27 others were injured, said Ayubi who added no children and womeninfo-icon were among the victims.

The incident occurred because of the bus driver's fast and reckless driving, said provincial traffic department head Mohammadullah, adding that the department had sent a team to the scene to investigate and a team of doctors to provide first aid to the victims.

Up to 24 wounded were taken to Mirwais Hospital, where many of the victims were in critical condition, a doctor at the hospital said on condition of anonymity. The number of fatalities might soar due to the critical injuries of the victims, the source added.
