35 killed, 27 injured in Kandahar accident
KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): At least 35 people were killed and 27 others wounded when a 303 model passenger bus flipped over Saturday in the southern province of Kandahar, officials said.
In a statement, the Minsitry of Interior said the occurence took place in the Shur Andam area of Daman district.
The accident took place at around 6am on Kabul-Kandahar Highway in the Daman district of Kandahar, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Thirty-five passengers died and 27 others were injured, said Ayubi who added no children and women were among the victims.
The incident occurred because of the bus driver's fast and reckless driving, said provincial traffic department head Mohammadullah, adding that the department had sent a team to the scene to investigate and a team of doctors to provide first aid to the victims.
Up to 24 wounded were taken to Mirwais Hospital, where many of the victims were in critical condition, a doctor at the hospital said on condition of anonymity. The number of fatalities might soar due to the critical injuries of the victims, the source added.
