NDS officer killed in Jalalabad blast
JALALABAD (PAN): A National Directorate of Security (NDS) officer was killed and four others wounded in a remote-controlled bomb explosion in the eastern province of Nangarhar on Saturday, officials said.
The NDS officer was on his way to his office when a bomb placed in rickshaw detonated in the Joy Haft area of Jalalabad City, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The officer was killed and four others including two civilians were injured in the explosion, he said.
Four wounded people in stable condition were taken to Jalalabad Civil Hospital, the head of the hospital Dr. Saif-ur-Rahman said.
Samiullah, a witness, said he and his family were sleeping after morning prayers when the heavy explosion jolted his house.
The explosion smashed the windowpanes of their house, which is 25 metres from the police checkpoint. He was also injured in the blast, he said.
The NDS officer, Mazar Pacha, was killed and his two guards were injured, a security official who requested anonymity said.
This was the first explosion within Jalalabad in two months. In July, two Afghan soldiers and two civilians were injured in an attack on the air base outside the city.
