KABUL(PAN): Eidul Fitr, a festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramazan, would be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug 30, a renowned astrologist predicted on Monday.
Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Abdullah Kandahari said the current Islamic month is of 29 days. Shawal, the month after Ramazan, will start at 1pm on Monday.
Therefore, he said, the first day of Eid will be on Tuesday. However, Kandahari said, the moon could not be sighted on Monday in Afghanistan. But it can be easily seen in Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and other far eastern countries.
The moon would reach Afghanistan at 6:30pm, with people in many areas, including Kabul, able to see it, the astrologist said.
He rejected the prediction of Mohammad Shaukat Odeh (Awda), chairman of the Islamic Crescents' Observation Project (ICOP), the Eid would fall on Tuesday.
