Finance Ministry cuts tax on wheat flour

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The customs duty on wheat flour has been reduced ahead of Eidul Fitr, the Muslim festival marking the end to the holy month of Ramadaninfo-icon, the government announced on Tuesday.

"In response to requests from consumers and traders for wheat flour, the Ministry of Finance has decided to cut the custom tax from 10% to 5% on flour," the ministry said in a brief statement.

The landlocked country is heavily reliant on wheat imports from neighbours to meet demand for flour, a staple food item in Afghanistaninfo-icon. The commodity is mainly imported from Pakistaninfo-icon and Tajikistan.
