14 fighters killed, 35 captured: ministry

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Fourteen fighters were killed and 35 others captured in operations by Afghan and coalition forces over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior in Kabul said on Wednesday.

Three insurgents were wounded during clashes with Afghan police, army, intelligence agents and coalition forces in Kabul, Parwan, Kandahar, Helmand, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Khost, Ghazni, Paktia and Herat provinces.

Police seized a large cache of light and heavy weapons, including missiles in the Khak-i-Jabbar district of Kabul province, the ministry said in a statement. The missile had been positioned for an attack on the capital during the Eid festival, it added.

Also seized were five anti-vehicle bombs, 10 kilograms of explosives, 13 mortar rounds, 11 missiles, 26 hand grenades, one rocket launcher, one machine gun, five pistols and 19 AK-47 rifles.
