58 AK-47 rifles seized in Nangarhar
The weapons were seized from a Hino truck on Tuesday evening as a result of a police search on the Torkham-Jalalabad Highway in the Barikab area of Batikot district, said the highway commander.
Staff Capt. Khuda-i-Dad told Pajhwok Afghan News when a policeman got into the vehicle for a search, the driver sped away. The policeman fell to the ground and was injured, he said.
Other policemen followed and managed to intercept the truck with weapons, but the driver managed to flee, he added.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Sardar Mohammad Sultani, said they were looking for the driver. The weapons were handed over to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DAIG) programme.
