Mastermind behind PRT attack arrested
HERAT CITY: Three militants, blamed for planning an attack on the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) compound in the capital of western Herat province, were detained by intelligence officials, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.
Led by Abdullah, alias Lala, the gangsters have confessed to transferring a suicide bomber from Pakistan to the city to attack the PRT base near the Cinema Chowk area, the NDS statement said.
The detainees, hailing from southern Kandahar province, had come to Herat City to launch attacks, but were arrested by spy agents. The attack occurred on May 30, killing seven civilians and wounding more than 50 others, including 10 Italian soldiers and two Afghan guards.
