Uruzgan press club to be named after Khpalwak: GovernorBy Javed Hamim Kakar Aug 25, 2011 - 21:12
KABUL (PAN): The governor of central Uruzgan province has announced the establishment of a press club to be named after the slain journalist, Ahmad Omaid Khpalwak.
Mohammad Omar Sherzad made the announcement late on Wednesday at a memorial service for Khpwalwak, a Pajhwok Afghan News and BBC reporter, who was killed in violence between insurgents and security forces on July 28.
Khpalwak, 25, was among at least 22 people killed when gunmen and suicide bombers targeted the governor's office and police headquarters in Tarinkot, capital city. He was in a local radio and television bureau when it came under attack.
The memorial service was also attended by tribal elders, religious scholars and a number of journalists.
