ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): A dozen people, including five army and air force officials, were killed in a massive bomb explosion at a hotel in Pakistaninfo-icon's northwestern city of Nowshera, officials said on Friday.

Another 24 people were wounded in the bombing that hit the main bazaar of the Risalpur garrison town on Thursday evening, the district's administrative head told reporters at the scene.

A large number of people were in Decent Restaurant on the Nowshera-Mardaninfo-icon road when the explosive device, attached to a bicycle, went off at 8.30pm, District Coordination Officer Muhammad Hussain Khan said.

Several shops, two restaurants and some vehicles were damaged.  The casualties were transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera and Mardan Medical Complex. The victims' body parts were seen scattered around the site.

Police officer Akhtar Ali Khan said eight kilograms of explosives were used in the attack. A woman, a child and some civilians were among the fatalities resulting from the remote-controlled blast.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, meanwhile, condemned the blast and directed law-enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. Such acts would not dent his government’s resolve to stamp out militancy from the country, he said.
